They are old and looking a little weathered these days. Three bunks in Creighton; Broderick, Bereskin and Collins, are being rebuilt this summer. The Town of CreightonÕs Recreation Director, Channa Senyk, applied for a Building Communities North grant and hopes to begin work next week. With children still using the bunks but also using the road for games, having these bunks redone will be a check on the safety list. ÒWe are hoping this will encourage road hockey on the bunks and not on the road,Ó says Senyk. ÒWe are thinking about putting some basketball hoops up as well. ÒItÕs to keep them off the main roads.Ó The bunks, which Senyk doesnÕt think have ever been rebuilt, will be torn down and rebuilt. When originally built, wooden posts were used for support, but those posts will be replaced with metal. The metal will ensure the revamped bunks last a lifetime. Also new to the refinished bunks will be the surface, as they will be paved. ÒThe design is also going make it easier to clean,Ó says Senyk, adding that a quad will be able to fit in the gate. As well, once the bunks are paved, it will be easier to flood in the winter time. ÒIt will just be better to spruce up the neighbourhood,Ó she says. ÒThe kids still use them. More so on Collins, but there seems to be more kids in that area.Ó Though the Collins bunk had some work done to it last year, Senyk says she hopes to save the end that was replaced and work around it. All in all, Senyk figures the bunks will take 11 weeks to refinish, but could be done sooner.
