After working for five years at CFAR-590 and then a year at CJAR-1240 in The Pas, Evan "Hammer" Hammond made his way to British Columbia. Hammond has called B.C. home since 2003 and that's where he has perfected his call-by-call career Ð at least the British Columbia Hockey League thinks so. Hammond has been named as Broadcaster of the Year for the BCHL. Taking up residence in Alberni Valley, B.C., Hammond has called nearly 400 games for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. "Hammer sets the bar high when it comes to his preparation and performance in broadcasting BCHL games," league media services director Jeff Dubois told the Alberni Valley News. "That Evan is as committed to the community of Port Alberni as he is to the quality of his broadcasts says all you need to know about him as a professional and as a person." According to those in the community, "Hammer" is known for his help with various events, calling the games as well as team activities. "We are very fortunate to have Hammer involved as part of our organization," Bulldogs president Andy Oakes said told the Alberni Valley News. "He is one of the best in the league and his loyalty and professionalism are second to none."
