For many decades, the Willow Park Curling Club has been a home for curlers a couple times of week. This year is no different as the doors have open for yet another season. Club president Doug Dutcawich says right now the numbers, along with the events planned for this year, are up and doing really well. "We're hosting almost everything in Manitoba this year," says the returning president. The action begins on the weekend with the Men's Spot, which will be followed throughout the season with the Men's Zones 13, the Northern seniors Men and Women as well as the Masters. As far as membership is concerned, Dutcawich says there are a lot of teams registered, and with the registration only three weeks ago, he says he's pleased with the outcome. As far as Dutcawich can remember, off hand, there are eight men's teams who play Thursday night, five men's teams on Tuesday night. The ladies take to the ice on Wednesday with five teams lined up and four teams for the Monday night games. As well there is the Hot Stove league that plays on Thursday, which has eight or 12 teams. "Everything is going excellent this year," he says. "We're hosting this year, which is a good thing, but it makes for a busy year." While there are plenty of adults taking part in the action, Dutcawich says he would like to see the juniors out participating as well. "The kids are involved through school," he says. Students from McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac spend some phys ed classes in January in the curling rink. "I hope it gets the interest up," he says, as he invites everyone to come out and watch some curling. The Northern Safeway Select Zone will be held at the Willow Park Curling Club from November 23-25 with the final eight teams challenging each other on Sunday, November 26. December 7-8 will have the seniors, both men's and women's teams, hitting the ice, while the second week in January will have the Zone Spots for men.
