The Hubbell Awards Inc. is a registered charity that encourages the development of Manitoba youth who are involved in the cadet movement. It presents bursaries annually to cadets who are judged by a selection committee to be the most outstanding in their element. The youth must be full time students and members in good standing of a cadet unit in Manitoba. The winners are those cadets who best demonstrate the attributes of good citizenship, leadership, physical fitness and support the community outside of the cadet movement. Cadet Master Warrant Officer Erin Harper, of Flin Flon, was selected by a committee as the army cadet who best met the criteria for the award, which was presented to her on October 17, 2009 at the Hubbell Awards Dinner in Winnipeg. Erin is an outstanding example of the youth enrolled in the cadet program. She is a gold star cadet and has previously won the Lord Strathcona Medal. She is involved with her school band, basketball, track and field and swimming. She attends Hapnot Collegiate and is on the school council. She has not made a final decision of her career path, but she is considering medicine.
