Local Elks members are celebrating 80 years in Flin Flon this weekend. The group, established in 1930, will be having a dinner and dance in honour of the organization. As of earlier this month, roughly 40 out of town past members were expected to come into Flin Flon for the celebrations. As well as former members, the Flin Flon Elks Club will welcome the national leader Ð Dave Hurley Ð from Yellowknife. This weekend will be busy for the members as there will be a meet and greet for past and present members as well as the dinner and dance. Also, members have been raising money for their walk-a-thon, which will help raise funds for a provincial fund for children. Ron Baschuk, the past president of the Elks club, says he's excited about the celebrations. Before the walk-a-thon gets started, the group will be walking in a parade from the Flin Flon Community Hall to the cenotaph on Hill Street. The walk-a-thon is set to take place at Flinty's boardwalk, where Baschuk says the public is welcome to join.
