Dust off those dance shoes and grab a friend for the upcoming in motion Wanna Dance program towards the end of the month. Fran Labarre, with the NOR-MAN Regional Health Authority, has gathered a few dance instructors to teach two different groups some new dance moves. Group one, a mother-daughter group, and Group two, a Friends over 40 group, will learn some of the basics for hip hop, step dancing and clogging. Kallia and Lucy Martin will be teaching the step dancing while Cheryl Anderson will be taking charge of the hip hop. ÒItÕs just a fun afternoon,Ó says Labarre. The MomÕs and Daughters group has an age limit of 9-11 for the girls while Friends over 40 are just that. ÒThere isnÕt a lot of physical activities for those age groups available,Ó says Labarre. The in motion event will have a side of dancing, socializing and refreshments for all who attend. Although this is the first time for the event, Labarre says she hopes to be able to continue it again. ÒIf itÕs well received and I get my numbers I would like to have it on a monthly basis,Ó she says, adding it would be a fall and winter program. As of now the program will offer three dances, but if the event expands, she says she hopes to be able to incorporate more dances into it. ÒI donÕt know, maybe something like belly dancing,Ó says the organizer. Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance are just some of the shows on TV that revolve around dancing, which is where Labarre says she got the idea. ÒI thought, Ôhey dancing would be a great physical activity,ÕÓ she says. And as the idea turned in LabarreÕs head, she said she had to find dances people co do and teach. ÒI wonÕt be teaching them,Ó she says with a laugh. For more information and to register, contact Fran Labarre at 687-1355.
