Head coach and GM Mike ReaganÕs saying of Òa good team never loses two nights in a rowÓ wasnÕt enough for the Bombers to bring home the bacon in WednesdayÕs game against the Notre Dame Hounds. It was a tough loss against the Nipawin Hawks the night before and the BombersÕ hardship followed them to Notre Dame. The Hounds doubled up on the Maroon and White 4-2, moving the home team from sixth to fifth place in the Sherwood Conference while the Bombers stayed put in third place in the Itech Conference. It was a different size crowd than the Bombers were used to as 500 fans came to watch the two red and white teams face each other for a victory. In Action Flin Flon got the scoring going in the first period and took an early lead as Mathieu Lecours lit the lantern, assisted by Harley Garrioch. But the Hounds would soon tie things up with a powerplay goal from Kyle Ireland. Ryan Kerpan buckled up the pads and did what he could. Both teams fired off 14 shots in the first period as Kerpan and Mark Currie each let one in. As for penalties, a few minors were handed out to both teams. Flin Flon was in for tripping, holding and interference while the Hounds were given two minutes for slashing and then hooking. The Bombers were hoping to come back in the second period to break the tie, but the Hounds beat them to it. Ryan Schwartz was able to get past Kerpan late in the second, making it 2-1 for the home team. The Bombers tried their hand at nine goals, but were unable to get past Currie until the third period. But before Jean-Sebastien Bergeron could get his goal, the Hounds made it 3-1. As Bergeron, who was assisted by Cole Wilson and Tommy Castonguay, brought the score a little closer, the Hounds found another hole. As the game sat at 3-2 and the Bombers were looking for that goal to tie things up, the Hounds beat Kerpan for the fourth and last time that night. The Bombers were able to squeak by and outshoot the Hounds 38-31 but it wasnÕt enough for a win. The team had a day of rest yesterday and will take on the Bruins in Estevan for a double-header weekend. Flin Flon is looking to split the road games with two wins. The BomberÕs were unavailable for comment after WednesdayÕs game.
