The North has plenty of open water to take advantage of and one individual wants to make sure there are plenty of options for exploring it. Ron Horn, owner of Fresh Air Experience, brought more than a dozen kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards to the Denare Beach and Bakers Narrows areas this week. 'We want to expose people to personal powered water crafts and water sports,' said Horn, based out of Prince Albert. Horn, along with assistant Josh Tkachuk, helped those interested in the free demonstration to find a kayak, canoe, or stand up paddle board right for them. The duo started in Denare Beach Wednesday evening as they brought the personal water crafts as well as paddles and lifejackets for all ages. The demonstration was open to all ages as families attended as well as young adults, adults, and seniors. A few children took front seat with an adult as they tested out a few options. Horn and Tkachuk were on hand to answer questions, but hoped to raise awareness of the sport more than anything. Horn held a similar demonstration in the area last year as roughly 160 people buckled up lifejackets. The stand up paddle boards were once again a popular feature. Requiring balance, Horn says once on the board it is easy to navigate. The owner of the outdoor experience business says those who play winter sports, like hockey, tend to have good luck when it comes to the balance needed on the paddle boards and kayaks. Following Denare Beach Wednesday evening, the duo moved their items to the Bakers Narrows Campground. 'Where do you find a better area for water,' Horn said, as he looked into the open water of Amisk Lake. 'It's perfect here.' The free demonstration is one of many ways Horn believes is the right way to pick a personal water craft. 'You have to try these things,' he said, eager to show those interested in adventures just waiting to happen.
