Pledges and donations came pouring in for the Flin Flon Recycling Centre of the weekend as they held the 14th annual Great Recycling Event on June 14. With an average sum of about $600 being taken in in the past, Deb Odegaard, chair of the Flin Flon and District Environment Council, said $2,500 was raised this year. In previous years, the event took place around Bakers Narrows Days. As those are no longer taking place, the centre held their event in town Ð creating a new trail for the 45 participants. Starting out at Phantom Lake, a few of the 45 completed a 15-kilometre trek, while the rest stayed on the three-kilometre path. The normally 26-kilometre ride was downsized in length, but not in spirit and certainly not in money raised. "We were quite pleased to make $2,500 off it," says Odegaard. "It was a great turnout as well." After the tour, which several participants covered on their bikes, participants gathered for a hot dog lunch. "It was far above what we have ever raised in the past," Odegaard said, noting part of it came down to the organization put into this year.
