If you like to curl and are over 60, there's good news for you. The District 1 play-downs take place at the Uptown Curling Club from November 22-24. District 1 consists of Flin Flon, The Pas, Thompson, Snow Lake and Cranberry Portage. The winners won't have to travel very far for the Provincials because they too will be played at the Uptown Curling Club in February. The deadline for registration for the District 1 play-downs is November 15. Ann Wiebe is the lady to contact at the Uptown Curling Club. There are entry forms at the curling clubs. According to curler Norma Barr, there are twelve districts in Manitoba with each competing within their districts to get a team to represent their district. There are 16 teams in the provincials, with the other four determined by which districts had the most entries in their playoffs the previous year. District 1 has been chosen to have two teams in the provincials Ð good timing since the provincials will be played in Flin Flon. Participants who play in the districts are guaranteed two games regardless of the number of entries. So let's see the rink filled with spectators for the district play-downs on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 22 and 23, cheering on their favourite team. As soon as the draw becomes available we will have it for you along with complete coverage of the events.
