Uptown curling club held a "fun spiel" over the Grey Cup weekend. This spiel was opened to Men's teams, Women's teams and Mixed teams. There were 18 teams entered and the winning team was the Jim Quinn mixed team of Karen Leifso, Brad Leifso and Darlene Quinn. Going on Tuesday through Thursday at Uptown Curling club is the Golden Gals play downs with the winning team going to Carberry in February. The first draw Tuesday at 10 a.m. saw Ann Henry win over Irene Johnston, Terry Jaszan's team defeated Gerrie Kostuchuk's foursome and Leone Lundgren won over Ann Wiebe. There are two draws a day at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with the finals being held on Thursday. Also the Men's floater spot in the Select Curling Classic is taking place at Uptown Curling Club the weekend of November 26-29. The draw has been made up by the Manitoba Curling Association and is posted at the rink. The first draw is Friday night at 7 p.m. with Gogal (FF) playing Antila (Thompson), Beavis (Morden) playing Bensen (FF), Sattelberger (FF) playing Janzen (Thompson) and Preston (Warren) playing Parsons (Thompson). There are nine teams entered with three from Flin Flon, three from Thompson, one from Morden, one from Carberry and one from Warren. Come out and cheer on your favourite team. If, however, you are housebound there is also curling on TV. On Thursday, November 25 starting at 9:30 am the Continental Cup Mixed, Women's and Men's will be on TSN. Also mark your calendars for December 3, 4 and 5 at the Uptown rink, where the Target Zones Junior Curling will be played. Watch for further details.
