Flin Flon's 5th Cub Scouts celebrated their 62nd anniversary Monday by handing out certificates to longtime supporters. Jack Rigby received a 15-year pin and a 10-year medal in honour of his time as the Royal Canadian Legion's representative with the Cubs. He also accepted a certificate on behalf of the Legion for its 62 years of sponsoring the troupe. "It's still nice to see the kids coming out," Rigby told the group of children, volunteers and parents gathered at the Scout Hall. Rigby said it's a challenge to keep children involved, but it is important to do so because they are the future leaders of their community and country. A certificate also went to Jeanne Fell, who has been involved with Scouting for 59 years, 44 with the 5th group, as a Cub Leader and later on the Group Committee. Honoured as well was Sharon Grocholski, who has been with the 5th Group Committee for 30 years. If that weren't enough, she also works with Girl Guides and as a Sparks Leader. Ron Potkonjak was recognized for 32 years of service. Over the years he has been a Scout Master in the now-defunct 3rd Flin Flon Troupe, Cub Leader in the 8th Pack, and the past four years, Cub Leader of the 5th Cubs. Last but not least, Brent Grocholski was honoured for 22 years with the 5th group. He has been a Beaver Leader and a Cub Leader and works diligently on the yearly popcorn and sandbag fundraisers. He also repairs the Scout Hall. After accepting their certificates at the Scout Hall, the recipients, along with the Cubs and Beavers, were invited to enjoy some mouth-watering birthday cake.
