The Greenstone High School Hockey League concluded its inaugural season last week with Creighton Community School defeating Frontier Collegiate 5-4 in a final game that went to overtime.
The final was played at the Whitney Forum on Tuesday, March 24.
Five teams competed in the league, launched last November. In addition to Frontier Collegiate, Cranberry Portage produced a second team. The two other teams came from Flin Flon and Pelican Narrows.
Each team played a 14-game schedule. Flin Flon finished first in the regular season but was upset by Creighton in the semi-final game.
Greenstone is the league sponsor. The Sorenson Trophy, named in honour of Flin Flon pioneers John and Bob Sorenson, was presented to Creighton players and coach Brandon Ireland.
The league is open to all high school students, regardless of skill level. It is a recreational league with no checking and no slap shots.
