The Town of Creighton's Recreation Department has taken up residency in the former Creighton Regional Development Centre after the centre's funding was cut by the government. The doors to the CRDC closed on October 8 and reopened as Creighton Recreation on October 12. Channa Senyk, the Town's Recreation Director, said it was the perfect location for the new recreation office. "When I found out the CRDC was closing, I thought it would be a good fit for Creighton Recreation. It (gives) me space for running some of my smaller programs," said Senyk. The former CRDC will now operate as the Town of Creighton Recreation Department, tourism, small business loans and the Cap Site. As the Town of Creighton owns the building, Senyk said it was a sensible move. With a room in the back of the building, Senyk says she will no longer need to rent a hall or space to do a small craft. Previously, the programs had been done in the Creighton Sportex, but with the recent lease of that space, the Recreation department was unable to use it. Moving her office into the former CRDC building made the most sense. "It's already a building that we own," said Senyk. With Senyk now taking up residency in the office, she will be able to look after the tourism and culture side of the operation. Though she is the only worker at the moment, she will have a Recreational Assistant in the near future.
