They’ve practiced. They’ve strategized. They’ve reviewed game footage.
Now all that’s left for the Creighton Kodiaks is to hit the field for the Northern Saskatchewan Football League final.
The Kodiaks are in Prince Albert tomorrow, Saturday, to meet the La Ronge-Churchill Chargers to decide the winner of the Ralph Pilz Trophy.
“If we can run the ball and stop the run, I feel very, very confident that we’ll win the game,” said Kodiaks head coach Ryan Karakochuk.
“We just need to go out there and do what we’ve been practicing.”
Karakochuk said the Kodiaks are completely healthy, with middle linebacker Shaunavon Francois returning from a concussion.
The head coach admits he’s “a little nervous” but said his team had a good week of practice and is eager to play.
The Kodiaks enter the game undefeated this season – and in their history – but the Chargers gave them a scare Oct. 1 after they led 20-14 at half time. Creighton came back to win 46-27.
Karakochuk called it “the hardest game we’ve played” and noted the Chargers’ tackling abilities and strong coaching.
“It was a good test and hopefully we get by them again,” he said.
Win or lose Saturday, the Kodiaks will play their first ever provincial playoff game on Saturday, Oct. 24. Win and it will be in Creighton; lose and it will be in Rosthern, Saskatchewan.
Saturday’s game gets underway at 3 pm Saskatchewan time (4 pm local time) and will be livestreamed on the league website at Northernskfootball.com.
