It may be cold outside this weekend, but inside Creighton Community School, the competition will be heating up.
The Creighton Kodiaks girls’ basketball team is hosting the Kit Klassic 2016, a two-day tournament, on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15 and 16. The event is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.
The tournament will include players from Nipawin, Hudson Bay, Sandy Bay, Cranberry Portage, Naicam, The Pas and Duck Lake.
Creighton players will kick off the tournament with a 2:30 pm game on Friday against Frontier Collegiate Institute. If they win, the Kodiaks’ next game will be Saturday at 11:30 am. If they lose, they will play at 10 am Saturday.
“We have a pretty strong team this year,” said head coach Ryan Trumbley.
The girls have made it to the finals in two of four of the tournaments they have played this season, and they will play three more tournaments before playoffs begin.
Player Kenzie Grant says the team is working on responding quickly to rebounds during games, and “always being ready for the ball.”
The tournament will also include a skills competition on Friday night, giving players a chance to work on their free throws and lay-ups while having some fun with the other teams.
