The Senior A Girl's Volleyball team from Creighton Community School continued their undefeated streak right into the semifinals last weekend in La Ronge. The team went 6-0 with their first loss of the season in the finals, giving them a silver medal for the weekend. Coach Ryan Trumbley says the weekend was filled with good volleyball from the girls. "It was the best the girls had played all year," said Trumbley. Even though the team wasn't able to win the gold in the end, Trumbley says he was "very pleased" with the result. "It was the best the girls had played all year, by a long run," he reiterated. Looking back at the tournament, which hosted three other teams, the coach says the girls' strengths came from being able to play no matter what. "I was extremely impressed with (their) ability to play in pressure situations," he said. Along with the teams in the gym, Trumbley says roughly 150 people turned out to watch the tournament. "The gym was rockin'," he said. Learning from their past tournaments and match-ups, the girls worked on their attack D for this tournament. Trumbley says things came together for them. "Senator Myles Venne were strong forward girls and we played great attack D against them," he says. The Kodiaks played Senator Myles Venne in the finals and lost two games to one. The girls play in Watson this weekend. Trumbley says they were spending some time on their "tip coverage" as well as working on a few things offensively. "This is a really big tournament," Trumbley says. Ten teams will be participating in the weekend event with four provincial power hitters in the building. The Kodiaks coach hopes for another good weekend. "We always expect the girls will go there and do well," he says. He say while the girls would love to win, they are there to play their best and go from there. "We can always play next weekend," says the optimistic coach.
