Over $11,000 along with many other prizes, was awarded this year at the Cranberry Portage Trout Challenge. The top team of David Minish and Jim Reich (Swan River) caught fish totaling 230" and took home a $3,500 cash prize. David has waited a long time for the coveted Trout Challenge trophy having fished in the derby for 19 years. He shared that the first year he and his partner entered, they did not catch any fish during the two day competition. The second prize of $2,500 went to Randy Boychuk and Blaine Hyska (Flin Flon) catching 224.5". Sitting in third place and winning $2,000 was Bradey Fidierchuk and Barrett Anderson (Cranberry Portage) with 220.5". Other cash prizes were presented to Onni Hyytiainen and Jerry Kozlowski (The Pas) 216"; John Waterer and Bruce Murray (Winnipeg) 214.5"; Cory and Peter Mishchuk (Cranberry Portage) 205"; Clint & Jill Bickel (The Pas) 204"; Jack Brown and Bob Anderson (Cranberry Portage) 204"; Ray Lavis and Gary Kozar (Flin Flon) 203"; Martin Ouellet and Rob James (Cranberry) 202.5" ; and Tom and Lane Balfour (The Pas) 202.5". On Saturday, Fidierchuk caught a trout measuring in at 38.5" winning a $100 for the largest fish of the day. The largest fish Sunday was 33" caught by Jerry Kozlowski, earning him $100. Fidierchuk also took home merchandise from Manitoba Tourism for catching the largest fish of the tournament. The Candace Danielson Memorial Trophy was awarded to Jill Bickel for landing a 27" fish, the largest trout caught by a female angler. This trophy was donated by Candace's family and Bickel also received a plaque and a 2011 CP Trout Challenge Team Entry valued at $150.00. The John Moodie Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the highest placing Cranberry Portage Team and until next year the bragging rights that go along with that belong to Fidierchuk and Anderson. We hope to see all anglers back for the 22nd Annual Trout Challenge in 2011!
