Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Frontier Collegiate Institute and Cranberry Portage Elementary School opened their doors for the annual Frontier Games recently. Hosting roughly 400 athletes, the Games were open to students in grades 5 to 12. Students participated in archery, badminton, basketball, floor hockey, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, table tennis and trapsetting. Dodie Johnston, principal of Frontier Collegiate Institute, says the Games were excellent. 'The students and the behaviour of everyone was so respectful,' said Johnston. 'With all the extra students, it was amazing how many we had.' Hosting high school students on a daily basis, Johnston said it was 'pretty darn cute' seeing all the little children running around. Busy with the weekend, the principal was only able to catch some basketball and a little bit of the trapsetting, but she was pleased with how things went. 'The closing ceremonies were awesome,' she said, noting her favourite part was seeing the students and chaperones communicating. As students cheered on their friends for awards and medals, Johnston says it was easy to see the pride in the faces of the athletes. With the Frontier Games complete for another winter, the athletes now look to the Spring Games. Pinecreek will host the Spring Games, though they are only open to high school students. Frontier Collegiate will send a few students to compete in the games.
