The annual Cranberry Portage Trout Challenge recently saw another successful year as anglers reeled in top prizes. John Highmoor and Blaine Hyska ranked first in the challenge of 62 boats as they earned themselves $3,500, hats and a trophy. Their 225.25 inches of fish earned them top markers as the second place team had 219.75 inches. Bradey Fidierchuk and Leigh Johnston earned second place, good for $2,500 and hats. Third place went to John and Jennifer Wolters as they claimed $2,000 and hats. The 11th Annual John Moodie Memorial Trophy went to Barry Anderson and Gord Fidierchuk as the highest-placing Cranberry Portage team. The Eighth Annual Candace Danielson Memorial Trophy went to Tracy Wheeler-Anderson as the female with the largest trout. Wheeler-Anderson's catch measured in at 26.25 inches. The Youngest Angler award went to Michael McCracken, age 8. The Greatest Comeback award was given to Danny Morin and Russell Asham with a total of 74 inches caught. The Largest Fish on Saturday was awarded to Sheldon Wiebe with a 40.5 inches trout while Sunday's award went to Leigh Johnston with a 42-inch trout. Quenten Lundie was the farthest traveler as the angler made the trip from Ottawa at 2,861 kilometres. The Hard Luck award went to Danny Fosseneuve and Gunthar Lundie as their boat fell off the trailer at the boat launch, the motor wouldn't start, and there was gas in one of the angler's eyes. After great difficulty, the boat started _ with a different motor _ and everyone cheered. The Youngest Female Angler award went to eight-year-old Neena Lundie.
