A dozen people made it out on Sunday, Sept. 16 to the Denare Beach Terry Fox Run. With dogs and children in tow, the walk made its way around from the Denareplex along the highway and over to the lodge to help celebrate Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope. Organizer Laurie Stomp, along with six other volunteers, got things started Sunday morning by watching a documentary made about Terry Fox's run to raise money for cancer research back in 1980. Denare Beach raised $215 this year, which is down from previous years, but Stomp says everyone who was out there had a reason. "I would have liked to have seen more participants, but overall everyone that was there, the walk meant something to them, and that's what matters to me," says Stomp. Many students who attend Creighton Community School collected money in Denare Beach, but Stomp says "the majority of them brought their money into the school, so that's fine." Organizer of the Flin Flon Terry Fox Run, Aimee Deans, saw 24 walkers out for the event, also held last Sunday afternoon. Ten people participated in a 10-kilometer run while eight people did the 5-kilometer run and six people did the one kilometer track. Creighton Community School had about 150 people show for their Terry Fox Run, which was held last Monday. Aside from the run, Channa Senyk, Creighton recreation director, sold hot dogs and juice to help raise money. More then $300 was raised from the sale of the franks.
