The SJHL Conference Finals got underway on Thursday with the Battlefords North Stars beating the La Ronge Ice Wolves 4-3. Battleford scored three goals in the third period to come from behind and win. The teams exchanged goals in the first period, even though the Stars heavily out shot the Wolves 15-6. Dylan Wiltermuth gave the Stars a 1-0 lead midway through the period, but Kyle Gladue's power play goal tied the game. Tanner Shultz put the Wolves ahead with the only goal of the second period. Dillon Henningson added La Ronge's third goal in the third period. Darren Delainey, Jared Mohr and Scott Maunula had the goals for the Stars. Final shots on net were 38-25 for Battleford. On Friday, the Estevan Bruins handed the Yorkton Terriers their first loss of the post season, hammering them 6-2. Chris Korchinski and Todd Rusnak were the goal scorers for the Terriers. Chris Stubel scored twice for Estevan in the second period, while Lorne Tytlandsvik, Cameron Jarvis, Chris Carr and Tim Spencer exploded for four goals in the third period. Battleford took a 2-0 lead in their best of seven series with La Ronge with a 5-3 win on Saturday night. Scott Odelien opened the scoring with a short handed goal for the Ice Wolves at 1:26 of the first period, and the Stars roared back with three goals before the end of the period. Jared Mohr scored two power play goals, and Darren Delainey added a single. Dillon Henningson and Kyle Gladue scored power play goals for the Wolves in the second period to tie the game, but Derek Keller's power play goal for the Stars restored their lead. Shane Cusack's third period goal came just 27 seconds after the opening face off, and was enough insurance for the Stars. Only 505 people attended the game in La Ronge.
