Hockey Manitoba has opened the application process to select coaching staff for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Applications are now being accepted for U-16 (Male) Team Manitoba and U-18 (Female) Team Manitoba coaching staff positions, of whom will operate during the 2014-15 Program of Excellence (POE), commencing with competition at the next Canada Winter Games held February 13 - March 1, 2015 in Prince George, BC. Qualified coaches are encouraged to apply for these positions which has now become the flagship coaching opportunity within the Hockey Manitoba POE. 'Canada Games coaching opportunities only come around every four years just like the Olympics, so it's truly a special achievement to participate in a national multi-sport championship event with Team Manitoba' comments Bill Whitehead, President of Hockey Manitoba. Interested candidates are to apply online by visiting www.hockeymanitoba.ca/poe_coach.php, applications will close on Friday, August 9, 2013. The training process for the 2015 Canada Winter Games has already begun for U-16 Team Manitoba through the 2013 Director's Cup Prospects program held back in April. This season both of the eligible males (1999 born) and females (1997 & 1998 born) will participate in Manitoba Games Regional Selection Camps, moving onto the 2014 Manitoba Winter Games which will serve as a replacement for the Hockey Manitoba POE Spring Tournament. From the 2014 Manitoba Winter Games the selected coaching staff and head scout of each program will choose forty players to attend the POE TOP-40 Camp to be held in May 2014. From the POE TOP-40 Camp a roster of approximately 25 players will continue onto summer training activities in July and August followed by exhibition tournaments in the fall/winter of 2014 to serve as final evaluations to decide the Team Manitoba rosters. Both U-16 and U-18 Team Manitoba squads finished 5th at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, NS.
