Coach Don Kirkham was pleased with the performance of his girl's team, the Hapnot Kweens. The team scrimmaged against the mixed Creighton Kodiaks Tuesday at the Phantom Lake soccer field. Kirkham says "it was a very difficult night for the rookies, nasty conditions and difficult opposition, a real test of ability." He added, "all in all, I was happy with the game, hard work and commitment." The scrimmage, according to Kirkham, was designed to help get the "new girls in game condition." The Kweens are down to four senior players with the rest rookies. "I was able to make my first assessment of the new girls to join the Hapnot squad," says Kirkham. The weather was a little less than desirable, with rain producing a slippery playing surface. The game had a final score of 8-2 for the Kodiaks, although that wasn't what was important, according to Kirkham. "It certainly means hard work in training has to be done by the new additions to the squad," he say. And he adds that "the next game will be focused on the Kweens senior players, where expectations will certainly be higher." Kirkham says there were some real positives to come from the game. "Our right full back position is certainly looking stronger, with last year's full back transferring to Creighton this year, this is one position that could potentially be a problem,"he says. Both goals for the Kweens were scored by Destiny Henry, supported by Michelle Podaima.
