The Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League have retained the No. 1 spot in the SP Apparel rankings in the Canadian Junior 'A' Hockey League. Nanaimo won twice in two games during the week ending January 16. The Clippers have a 35-6-0 record and one overtime loss, for 71 points in 42 games, first place in the Island Division, Coastal Conference and overall. The Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League advanced into the runner-up position. Camrose has a 10-game winning streak, is first in the Rogers Wireless South Division, and overall, at 35-6-5. Also, the CJAHL extends congratulations to North Bay Skyhawks' goalie Mike Lalande for scoring an empty-net goal January 16 in a 4-1 Northern Ontario Junior 'A' Hockey League win over the Northern Michigan Black Bears in North Bay. Manitoba Junior Hockey League The Neepawa Natives won twice in two games during the week ending January 16 to stay within three points of first place in the Sherwood Division, and overall, in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The Portage Terriers remain the division and overall leaders, with a 30-11-3 record. Neepawa is 26-10-6 and has two overtime losses in 44 games. The Winkler Flyers maintained their two-point advantage in the Addison Division. Winkler is 24-16-5 and has three overtime losses, for 56 points in 48 games. League-leading goalie Stefan Drew had 29 saves January 12 in Portage's 6-0 win over the Winnipeg Saints on the Saints' home ice. Teammate Steve Haddon had two goals and two assists. Goalie Stan Gregorowich made 27 stops January 16 in Portage's 2-0 win over the Saints on home ice in Portage la Prairie. Veteran Dustin Norman scored five times January 11 in Neepawa's 9-0 win over the Southeast Blades on Southeast's home ice. Goalie Kurt Jory had 30 saves for Neepawa. Derek Moar and Mark Hartman had one goal and two assists each January 15 in Neepawa's 6-2 win over the Dauphin Kings on home ice. Rookie goalie Blaine Neufeld made 49 stops January 14 in Winkler's 5-1 win over the OCN Blizzard on home ice. Winkler veteran Josh Froese continues to lead league scorers. Froese, 19, has 65 points, including 27 goals, in 48 games. Ryan Garbutt of the Winnipeg South Blues leads league scorers with 30 goals in 47 games. Winkler rookie Matt Ostash leads league scorers with 40 assists in 48 games. Drew, 19, has a 2.43 goals against average and 22-7-3 won-lost-tied record in 1,897 minutes. He is tied for the league lead with four shutouts. Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League The Battlefords North Stars have advanced within three points of the leading Kindersley Klippers in the ITECH Conference in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, with two games in hand. Defending champion Kindersley has a 25-15-2 record and two overtime losses, for 54 points in 44 games. Battlefords is 20-11-8 and has three overtime losses, after a 16-game undefeated streak was snapped January 15. The Estevan Bruins have a six-point advantage in the Sherwood Conference and a three-point lead overall. Estevan is 26-11-5. The Notre Dame Hounds are second in the Sherwood Conference, at 23-12-5, with two games in hand. Michael George had one goal and two assists January 11 in Battlefords 5-3 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on home ice in North Battleford. Three players had one goal and one assist each January 14 in Battlefords 5-2 win over the Melville Millionaires in Melville. Denis Chisholm had two assists January 14 in Notre Dame's 2-1 win over the Weyburn Red Wings in Weyburn. Goalie Jamie Langen made 30 stops January 15 in Melville's 3-0 win over Kindersley on home ice. Kindersley veteran Troy Schwab has a 20-point lead in the league scoring race. Schwab, 20, has a league-leading 53 assists and 71 points in 40 games. Dustin MacDonald of Battlefords remains the league-leading goalie. MacDonald, 20, has a 2.12 goals against average in 1,271 minutes. Veteran Juliano Pagliero of Estevan leads league goalies with a 22-7-4 won-lost-tied record in 1,985 minutes.
