Former Flin Flon Bomber goaltender Carson Chubak is turning in his NCAA jersey for an AHL one next season. The Prince Albert native finished an impressive season with the Niagara University Purple Eagles and will move on to play with the Adirondack Phantoms. Chubak, who played with the Bombers during the 2007-08 season, earned the Hobey Baker Award this year for his performance between the pipes. He put up an impressive 23-7-5 record with a goals-against average of 1.91 and a save percentage of .930. Chubak also picked up the conference goalie of the week award seven times this season as well as the Atlantic Hockey Association player of the year title. The goaltender signed the papers on May 1 and made it official to play with the Phantoms. 'It's really exciting,' Chubak told the Prince Albert Daily Herald. 'I'm really happy about it.' The Phantoms are done for the 2012-13 season, but Chubak will attend the prospects camp in July. The netminder had plenty of time to perfect his skills this season as he won a battle between two other goaltenders as starter for the Purple Eagles. 'I think the first 15 games my numbers were pretty low,' he was quoted. 'It was nice to get that under my belt and obviously that gives you a lot of confidence and the shutout streak helped. 'It was really that the team was winning.' The former Bomber will pack his bags and head to Glens Falls, New York for the upcoming season.
