Some familiar faces from around the community will show their poetic side tonight. The fifth annual Poetry Night gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Flin Flon-Creighton Public Library with more than 30 guest readers. "We've got a cross section of the community," said Harry Hobbs, one of the organizers. The readers will share work from predominantly Canadian poets, though some local poetry will also be showcased. There is no admission and all are welcome. Guests will include Flin Flon MLA Gerard Jennissen, RCMP Cpl. Leslie Beck, Andy Stewart of the Lions Club, and several elementary and high school students. The approximately two-hour event Ð sponsored by the library, Flin Flon Toastmasters, and Flin Flon Writers Guild Ð helps commemorate April as Canadian Poetry Month. Another treat will follow tomorrow afternoon when Flin Flon hosts the Toastmasters Speech Contest for all of rural Manitoba. As many as eight participants will have up to seven minutes to speak on a topic of their choosing for a chance to represent the region provincially. "You can see some first class public speaking," said Hobbs, president of the Flin Flon Toastmasters. The contest, a first for Flin Flon, gets underway tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Victoria Inn. Admission will be charged. For more information, contact Harry at 687-6647.
