The team of Al Chartrand, Metro Lekopoy, Len Bolton and Lorne Morrison will represent their zones in the Masters to be played in Winnipeg the week of February 25 to March 1. In the first zone playoff on Monday afternoon at 12:30 at Willow Park, the Thompson team of Vic Lowen, Ed MacTavish, Mel Hautured and Bruce Tokle defeated John Vielgut's team of Jack Scott, Dale Fawcett and Jack Streitle. The Pas team of Norm Fox, Jim Goderich, Elmer Young and Ron Sturalrand (who just turned 80) defeated the Al Chartrand team of Flin Flon. In the second draw at 3 p.m. Chartrand defeated Vielgut putting Vielgut out of further competition. The Pas also defeated the Thompson team. At 8:30 p.m. Chartrand defeated the Thompson team leaving The Pas undefeated on the A side and Chartrand coming out of the B side to play off against The Pas. Chartrand had to defeat The Pas' Norm Fox twice, and twice they did! The first game on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. was a well played game with many shots made by both teams. A Chartrand steal of two in the eighth end was enough to win the game 9 to 6. In the final game Chartrand got two in the first end and stole one in the second end. The Pas got two in the third end but never scored after that with Chartrand winning after the sixth end by a score of 8 to 2. They will represent the northern zone. The Chartrand team just couldn't do anything wrong in the final game and the whole team made some awesome shots. Congratulations guys and good luck! Other curling news: Blaine Gogal's team of Jim Quinn, Vinny Moran and Russ Reeves has been invited to play in the Manitoba Tour of Champions because the Kirkness team dropped out.
