The Yorkton Terriers lost a potential returning forward on Monday; while a graduating defenseman has decided to pursue the professional ranks. Bryce Nantes, a 20-year-old forward, is skipping his final year of junior in favor of Holy Cross of the NCAA. The 6'0", 178 lb forward from Calgary fought through a troublesome shoulder injury to score 11 goals and 10 assists in 48 games during the regular season. He had one goal and one assist in nine playoff games. In his rookie campaign of 2002-03, Nantes scored 10 goals and seven assists in 58-games as a penalty killing specialist. Notre Dame Hound Matthew Werry will also play for Holy Cross this season. Meanwhile, last year's captain has joined the Lubbock Cotton Kings of the CHL. Defenseman Jason Beatty was signed late last week after a year that saw him continue to get better as the season wore on. He had two goals and seven assists in 12 playoff games as he was Yorkton's best all-around performer. During the regular schedule, Beatty had five goals and 17 assists in 55 games. He scored nine goals and 21 assists in 51 games during the 2002-03 season. The Sturgis product stands 6'1" and weighs 210 lbs. Generally, Beatty was regarded as one of the toughest SJHL Competitors. In other SJHL news, the playing rights of 5'10, 180 lb centreman Croft Kurka (03/05/84 ? Prince Rupert, BC) have been transferred from the Nipawin Hawks to the Alberni Bull Dogs of the BCHL in exchange for the playing rights of Kyle Nichols. Croft Kurka played 54 regular season games this past year and accumulated 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points and 104 penalty minutes. During post season he played in seven games and had one goal and two assists for three points and eight penalty minutes.
