Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The annual Beat the Chief competition proved to be a community favourite as children, adults and seniors lined the street to watch local firefighters put themselves to the test. Dressed in their full gear, firefighters raced up stairs, pulled weights on a pulley, ran a figure eight, hosed down a bucket and dragged a roughly 130 lb. dummy to the finish line. Good show Firefighters pushed through both a grueling competition and the hot sun to put on a good show last Saturday, July 2, as part of the Trout Festival. It was held at the Flin Flon Fire Hall. Darren Romo came out on top with a time of 1:01 with Kevin Kemp in a close second (1:03) and Dan Hotel rounding out the third spot (1:08). Children were able to compete in a smaller version of the race as they rescued a stuffed puppy from a tube, dragged a garden hose, sprayed a bucket off a table and made it back to the Fire Hall.
