Jasen Wise has witnessed Brandt Weldon’s growth on and off the ice at Concordia University Wisconsin.

“What has impressed me most about Brandt during his time here at CUW is his growth from being a player on the team to being a leader on the team,” the Falcons head coach said of the third-year defenceman. “He has taken huge steps forward this season in regards to seeing the big picture and is making personal sacrifices to benefit the team. He has simplified his game, making the easy plays but also using his skill set when needed.”

Originally from The Pas, Weldon played three seasons with the Bombers, from 2010 to 2013, before heading to Mequon, Wisconsin, which is located 15 miles north of Milwaukee.

This season Weldon has a goal and two assists in 11 games for his school, which competes at the NCAA Division III level.

“On the ice Brandt’s vision and poise are paying dividends. … He has the ability to make the highlight reel play but has focused on keeping it simple and the results have been outstanding,” Wise said. “He’s helped our team to its best start in school history and our goals against average is at an all-time low.”

Weldon has also demonstrated growth in the classroom. He is majoring in exercise physiology.

“His focus in the classroom has also improved dramatically,” Wise said. “He’s getting good grades and has become a person his professors can count on for leadership and support in class.”
