Details have been released on who will hit the ice for next weekend’s Montreal Canadiens alumni game.
Rosters, events and related festivities have been announced for the game, set for Dec. 3 at the Whitney Forum.
Members of the Canadiens team have combined for 2,667 NHL games with the Habs, have tallied a combined total of 2,690 NHL points and hold four Stanley Cup rings won with Montreal.
The team is headlined by former NHL All-Star Stephane Richer, forwards Brian Skrudland, Oleg Petrov and Keith Acton, defender Patrice Brisebois and goalie Richard Sevigny.
Two Flin Flon residents, Marty Ledoux and Tommy Barr, will suit up with the Canadiens alumni team.
Former Canadiens legend Steve Shutt will coach the alumni, along with Flin Flon’s very own Jonathan Dougall who will slide in as assistant coach.
Ex-Flin Flon Bomber and Montreal Canadiens draft pick Cal Hammond will coach the other team, made up of Flin Flonners with various levels of hockey experience. Longtime Flin Flon Bombers play-by-play man Rob Hart, originally slated to play in the game, will be an assistant coach.
Ron Burwash will open the game with a ceremonial puck drop, joining local sponsors on the ice for a pre-game event.
The Women’s Resource Service has organized the game.
“Everyone’s pretty excited about it,” said Colleen Arnold, executive director of the Women’s Resource Service.
“I’m hearing lots of hype and it sounds like the stands are going to be filled.”
Tickets for the game went on sale on Nov. 25.
As part of the game, the centre has rescheduled its annual vigil for victims of the Montreal Massacre for the same day as the game.
The vigil is typically held on Dec. 6, the same day a man entered Montreal’s École Polytechnique and killed 14 women attending classes 28 years ago.
