Masters champion Mike Weir joins 18 other Canadian hopefuls all trying to end a 49-year drought this weekend at the Bell Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf & Country Club. No Canadian has managed to take home the title since Pat Fletcher in 1954 Ð a statistic Weir would love to change. After his spectacular season this year, the hometown favourite is feeling some extra pressure as he competes in Canada's national open championship. "There's nothing that would mean more than to play well here this week and somehow pull off a victory," said Weir. "This is the first professional tournament that I ever saw live; I remember going to Glen Abbey with a bunch of junior golfers, so I have great memories of the Canadian Open as a spectator. Now playing it, it will be that much more special to win. Obviously it would be a dream of mine to win this tournament and to do it this year especially, with the kind of year I've had, would be unbelieveable." About the Bell Canadian Open Conducted by the Royal Canadian Golf Association, the Bell Canadian Open has shaped the face of professional golf in Canada since 1904. This year, the world's best professional golfers will be competing in the 94th edition of the Canadian Open for $4.2 million (US), at Hamilton Golf & Country Club.
