The annual World Juniors Hockey Tournament got underway Boxing Day (December 26) with Canada showing who was boss in a big way Ð defeating Latvia 16-0 Ð in their first game of the tournament. Showing their skills in their second game, Team Canada came out on top 6-0 over Switzerland on December 28. Following two shutouts for Team Canada, they hit the ice to take on Slovakia Ð who is the only team to get past our nation so far Ð and came out on top 8-2. New Years Eve, Team Canada and Team USA took to the ice in what was said to be the game to watch in the Preliminaries. The following is are scores as of December 30: December 26 Czech Republic vs. Sweden 1 - 10 Canada vs. Latvia 16 - 0 Russia vs. Austria 6 - 2 USA vs. Slovakia 7 - 3 December 27 Austria vs. Sweden 3 - 7 USA vs. Switzerland 3 - 0 Czech Republic vs. Finland 3 - 4 Latvia vs. Slovakia 3 - 8 December 28 Canada vs. Switzerland 6 - 0 Finland vs. Russia 0 - 2 December 29 Austria vs. Czech Republic 1 - 7 Latvia vs. United States 1 - 12 Sweden vs. Russia 4 - 1 Canada vs. Slovakia 8 - 2 December 30 Finland vs. Austria 10 - 1 Switzerland vs. Latvia 7 - 5 On New Year's Eve, Canada played the United States. Sweden took on Finland, Switzerland battled Slovakia and Russia faced off against the Czech Republic. Games were also scheduled for January 2 and 3. Two relegation games were scheduled for today, along with the fifth place game. The bronze medal game and the gold medal game will be played tomorrow, January 5.
