Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL), announced on Friday the 22 players who will make up Team Canada East at the 2007 World Junior A Challenge in Trail and Nelson, BC from November 5-11, 2007. The Canada East roster is comprised of players from the CJAHL's five eastern leagues: the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL), Central Junior A Hockey League (CJHL), Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Quebec (LHJAAAQ) and Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MJAHL). "Team Canada East is very proud to unveil its roster," says general manager Marty Abrams. "Eastern Canada has a wealth of players that we have paid very close attention to over the past several months. We confidently feel that we have selected the best available players to allow us to compete for the gold medal at this exciting event." The roster announced is the result of extensive scouting done by Abrams, head coach Jerome Dupont (Aurora, OPJHL) and assistant coaches Mark Grady (Cumberland, CJHL) and Troy Ryan (Pictou County, MJAHL). The roster includes: Two goaltenders, seven defensemen and 13 forwards Four players currently leading their teams in scoring (Fournier - Granby, McIntosh - Stouffville, Oakley, Bowmanville, Zych - Georgetown) Seventeen players from the OPJHL, two players from the MJAHL, one player from the LHJAAAQ, one player from the CJHL, one player from the NOJHL The 2007 World Junior A Challenge is a six-team international event featuring two Canadian entries (West and East) and national teams from Russia, Germany, Belarus and the USA. The gold medal game will take place on Sunday, November 11 and will be broadcast on TSN, the official broadcaster of Hockey Canada.
