As the Stanley Cup Championship series gets ready to shift to Caanada, Tourism Calgary is capitalizing on the tremendous opportunity to promote Calgary as a destination and to welcome all those who will be visiting us over the next several weeks. "Calgary has been receiving so much positive international media attention thanks to the success of our Calgary Flames and the great citizens of our city that we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate with all Canadians," said Joe Fardell, president and ceo of Tourism Calgary. Tourism Calgary has announced a national contest for game four of the Stanley Cup playoffs on Monday, May 31st. The prize package includes return airfare for two visitors to Calgary, two nights accommodation downtown Calgary, meals, two Flames jerseys, two tickets to the Stanley Cup finals, limousine service and recognition as a honourary citizen of Calgary. Individuals can enter the contest which began noon on Wednesday, May 26 at www.lordstanleyincalgary.com. Contest winner will be advised by phone on the evening of Saturday, May 29, 2004. Calgary is once again on the international map thanks to our professional hockey team, which bodes extremely well for Canada's tourism industry. "We can't buy this type of promotion - we are so proud of our Canadian team and of Calgarians for once again promoting our City. We want to say thanks to all Canadians for supporting the Canadian Team during the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs" said Fardell. Tourism means business, and Tourism Calgary plays a key role in bringing visitors to the city. The industry generates over $1 billion annually and employs over 21,000 Calgarians.
