It's been an ongoing tradition for a few years now as hockey players young and older come together before Christmas to get a few goals and raise some money. With a five-dollar entrance fee, the Shayne Pearson Memorial Bursary, which is handed out at Hapnot Collegiate, grows a little as each player walks onto the Creekside Bunk. This year, according to organizer Kyle McKee, roughly 110 players made their way around the bunk with hopes of making it to the play-offs. December 23 was the date to be at the bunk for all those who were playing and watching as the round-robin play got started in the morning and ended later that evening with the play-offs. In the past, teams of four took to the playing surface, where as this year, it was teams of six Ð making up 27 teams that were ready to defend their names. Though hockey was also the focus of the day, the tournament was also about remembering and helping to honour a fellow Flin Flonner Ð Shayne Pearson. McKee says this year things went really well. It was "probably the best it's ever gone," he says.
