The 75-year history of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club is the subject of a new book. ÊBlue & Gold: 75 Years of Blue Bomber Glory is now available. The book was produced by Winnipeg-based publisher Great Plains Publications. It was edited by Bob Irving, the voice of the Bombers on CJOB Radio, and features contributions by a number of long-time Bomber reporters including Bob Picken, Hal Sigurdson, Don Wittman, Jim Bender and Ed Tait. The 159-page hard cover volume is also chalk-full of colour photographs from the past 75 years. Blue & Gold was a collaborative effort between Great Plains Publications, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Alumni Association and the Winnipeg Football Club. "When we learned that the 75th anniversary of the club was coming up we thought it would be a great opportunity to do something like this and it really fit with our mandate to promote Manitoba and prairie history," said Gregg Shilliday, publisher of Great Plains Publications. "I don't think anyone has published something like this since the club's 60th anniversary. Since it looks at the entire 75-year history of the club, we're confident it's something Bomber fans will want to see." Bombers President and CEO Lyle Bauer said Blue and Gold is a tribute to everyone involved in the football club over the years and to the efforts of the people involved in assembling the book. "The football club is extremely pleased to see its history recognized in such a first-class package," Bauer said. "We think Blue Bomber fans will be pleased with it too." Only 6,000 copies of Blue and Gold have been printed and Bomber fans are encouraged to buy their copy quickly before it sells out. The retail price of the book is $39.95 plus GST.
