The game was in favour of the home La Ronge Ice Wolves Wednesday night as they held a 2-0 lead over the Flin Flon Bombers going into the third period. The Maroon and White continued to play a good game with plenty of shots on net Ð but it was the third period that turned things around for the visitors. Two goals from the Bombers sent the teams into overtime and then a shootout, where the Bombers won 3-2. Tommy Castonguay came up with the team's first goal, followed by Patrick Sitko Ð who scored his first SJHL goal Ð to tie things up. The Bombers came out flat in the first period, but according to head coach and GM Mike Reagan, they took hold of the rest of the game. "We dominated in the second and third," says Reagan. "We played really well." Putting the first period behind them, the Maroon and White hit the ice for the second period with a different attitude. "We went in there down 2-0 Ð we had to change something," says the coach. "We didn't want to lose the game and we stepped up." As for the team's first goal, it was Castonguay who finally broke the shutout. "We had a lot of chances, just couldn't bury or capitalize on them," Reagan says. Like any game the Bombers play, once the team scores their first goal, they are more confident as a high-scoring team. And a big goal came from Sitko as he tied the game at two Ð eventually sending the team into a shootout. Earlier in the season Reagan had made the comment that he enjoys shootouts, as they add another element to the game. Going into Wednesday's event, he had no doubts about Flin Flon's ability. "We feel confident against anyone in a shootout," he says. "We have good goalies and skilled guys." The coach notes that many teams hold only a few skilled shooters, while the Bombers have a bench to choose from. "We have a whole lot that can put the puck in the net. And we feel confident about it," he says. For the first while of Wednesday's game, the Bombers were getting frustrated, according to Reagan. "The more frustrated you are, the harder it is to capitalize," he says, noting that this makes you always question yourself. So he gave the team a little pep talk. "I told the guys to continue to work hard and they will come up with a couple big goals, and we did," he says. As for the end of the game, the Bombers and Ice Wolves split the two points. Reagan tells his players it doesn't matter where the points comes from. "I don't care on the road Ð as long as we get the points," he says. "That's all that matters." The following is a summary of the game between the Bombers and Ice Wolves Wednesday night: Just under 400 fans made their way out to the Mel Hegland Arena in hopes of watching their hometown Ice Wolves defeat the Bombers. Flin Flon had other ideas. With the Ice Wolves up two goals going into the third period, the Bombers stepped up to tie things with an unassisted goal from Castonguay at 6:04. With the score sitting at 2-1, Sitko accepted a pass from Josh Garneau to earn his first SJHL goal and tie the game at 2-2 at 12:47. The remainder of the period saw big saves from both goalies. From there, the teams were sent into overtime, but were unable to accomplish anything. So onto the shootout. In the end, Michael Young scored the team's last goal to win the shootout Ð giving the Bombers one point for their 3-2 victory. Next up, the Humboldt Broncos are in town tonight Ð a game the Bombers are looking forward to. "We're excited," says Reagan. "We've been waiting a long time to see who we match up against. "We get the opportunity on Friday and we're looking forward to it."
