The Flin Flon Bombers are back. After breaking a four-game losing streak last Saturday against the Melville Millionaires, the Bombers started a southern swing Tuesday night. They schooled the Nipawin Hawks with a 7-1 victory Ð what could be the start of another winning streak for the Maroon and White. Following Saturday's win, head coach and GM Mike Reagan said Tuesday's game was going to be important. He said, if the team lost, then they weren't really out of their slump, but if they won, then they would be on the right path. Still owners of first place in the Bauer Conference, the Bombers earned their victory lap around the Hawks' barn as they took the two points. The Bombers started off on the right foot Tuesday as David Dykstra opened fire on the Hawks, scoring with help from Cory Tyrell and Andrew Johnston just 6:47 into the game. A minute later, newcomer Deven Stillar, with help from Mike Rey, earned the team's second goal. And to round out the first period, Alex Lamontagne found the back of the net after accepting a pass from Ben Bitz and Rey. With the score sitting at 3-0 going into the first intermission, the Bombers were right where they wanted to be. The second period proved to be just as promising for the Bombers as Brennan Cox was able to make it 4-0 on a power play with the help of linemates Rey and Ryan Fox at 5:22. And at 9:21, Fox scored his own marker, with help from Rey and Ben Bitz. With the score now at 5-0, the Bombers were dominating the scoreboard. Nipawin was able to break Matt Weninger's goose egg with a goal just after two minutes of play in the third period, making it 5-1. But sure enough, the Bombers weren't done there. Bitz scored one of his own with help from Lamontagne and Patrick Sitko while Dennis Restoule earned the final marker of the night to make it 7-1. Heading into Wednesday's game against the Estevan Bruins, the Bombers sat on top of the Bauer Conference race with 59 points. Estevan sat in last place in the Sherwood Conference with 32 points. The Weyburn Red Wings still lead the SJHL, and Sherwood Conference, with 64 points. The Bombers are in Weyburn tonight for their third game of their road series. And tomorrow, when Reagan returns to the bench, the Bombers will be in Notre Dame.
