Bombers win 3-0, then fall 5-2

The Flin Flon Bombers earned a big win over the Melville Millionaires before losing to the Estevan Bruins over the weekend. Coming off two home losses, the Bombers returned to the Whitney Forum last Friday, Dec. 6 to shut out the Millionaires 3-0.

The Bombers were outshot 6-10 in a scoreless opening period before notching two markers in the second frame.
Brock Hounsell made it a 1-0 game at 1:30 with assisting going to Dillan McCombie and Austin Calladine.
Calladine scored his first of two goals on the night at 18:27 with help from McCombie.
In the third period, Calladine lit the lantern at 14:13 with the game’s only power play goal.
Devin Buffalo earned the shutout, turning away 34 shots on the night. The Bombers also had 34 shots.
Flin Flon’s best period came in the third as they fired 15 shots at Melville netminder Isaiah Plett. In the second period, the Bombers managed 13 shots to Melville’s 12.
The Bombers weren’t as successful the following night.
They welcomed the Estevan Bruins to the Whitney Forum for Saturday’s game, but fell 5-2.
It was a promising start as the Bombers starting the scoring at 4:48 of the first period. Danys Chartrand made it a 1-0 game with help from Dean Allison and Erik Pedersen.
Flin Flon’s lead didn’t last long as the Bruins tied the game at 8:15 of the opening frame.
The second period was productive for the Bruins as they earned three goals.
The Bruins picked up their second marker at 4:55 before earning two power play goals – coming in at 16:43 and 19:21. It was now 4-1.
Buffalo started between the pipes for Flin Flon, but to start the third period was swapped in favour of Simon Hofley.
Flin Flon scored their second of the night, shorthanded, as Brody Robinson made it a 4-2 game. Flin Flon’s final marker came in at 4:48.
Estevan claimed the last goal of the game as they made it a 5-2 final at 16:39.
Flin Flon got another six-day break as they prepare to face the Kindersley Klippers on Friday.
