Captain Tyson Empey had a pair of goals and three points as the Bombers split their two games with the Melfort Mustangs last week.
The Bombers earned three of a possible four points with a 4-3 win and a 2-1 shootout loss on Wednesday, Nov. 4 and Thursday, Nov. 5.
“I think we are turning the corner,” head coach and general manager Mike Reagan said. “Now the challenge is to get back to .500.”
Flin Flon almost beat Melfort two nights in a row. Mustangs forward Dakota Boutin scored with less than 30 seconds remaining – at the 19:36 mark – to send Thursday’s game into overtime.
Reagan said his team was disappointed not to get the extra point and to have Zac Robidoux’s shutout bid wiped out so late in the game. The 20-year-old netminder had 30 saves on the night.
The Bombers are on the road this week. They play at Humboldt tonight, Friday, and are in Kindersley tomorrow, Saturday.
