The Flin Flon Bombers are still unbeaten in 2017, extending their winning ways with a 4-2 home victory over the Yorkton Terriers.
In a game more one-sided than the score would indicate, Flin Flon came out of the gates strong. Brandon Lesko scored his first of two goals to open the scoring. The Bombers never relinquished the lead after that, getting goals from Jason Lavallee and Eric Sinclair. Jared Legien and Kaleb Bell scored for Yorkton.
Zac Robidoux made 22 saves for his 15th win of the season. Yorkton goaltender Nathan Hargrave played well, making 44 saves, but came out on the losing end.
The game had a physical tone. Former Terrier Jordan McCausland dropped the mitts with former teammate Colby Haugen late in the second period. The rough stuff continued in the third period. After a hard hit by Bomber Nate Hooper left Terrier Carson Welke on the ice, Welke's twin brother McKenzie took exception, hitting Hooper with a flurry of punches. McKenzie was ejected for his trouble.
Newly-acquired Bomber Daylan Marchi made his debut for the maroon and white, picking up four penalty minutes and going without a point. The 18-year-old Marchi comes to the Bombers in a deadline day trade with the AJHL's Canmore Eagles, where he scored 10 points in 31 games. Canmore received Dondre Watson in the trade. Fellow deadline acquisition Teal Sobkowicz was not in the lineup for Flin Flon.
The Bombers are now 3-0 in the 2017 calendar year, having won their last five games since returning from the holiday break. The Bombers sit comfortably atop the Sherwood Division with 56 points, nine points ahead of Nipawin. The win also keeps the Bombers in second-place in the SJHL overall, only behind the Battlefords North Stars.
Flin Flon plays their next game Saturday night against the Notre Dame Hounds at the Whitney Forum. The Bombers then head to Yorkton where they'll face the Terriers again on Jan. 20 and 21.
