The spotlight continues to shine on Flin Flon Bombers forward Tyler Beachell. First the Bombers leading scorer caught the attention of NHL scouts, and now the SJHL has named him player of the month for January. "It's an honour anytime you get an award like that," said Beachell, who believes he benefited from the nine home games. The Rosser, MB native credits the whole team, and especially his teammates Dalton Pajak, who was runner-up with 10 goals, and Blake Rolston. Beachell earned the recognition after leading all SJHL players with 20 points in 13 games. During the points marathon was a four-point night in a 6-5 overtime win against the Nipawin Hawks on Jan. 31. "Most important is the team's success," he responded, when asked if this award had any special meaning. Bombers coach-GM Doug Stokes said it's a pretty worthy honour. "He has picked up his play," Stokes said. "I think his intensity level and willingness to compete in the small areas has improved." Stokes added that improving in those areas is important if Beachell wants to go onto the next level. "He's made concerted efforts," he said. For the season, Beachell has 28 goals and 37 assists for 65 points in 47 games. That places him fourth overall in league scoring. The 6-2, 185 pound forward edged out Pajak as well as Battlefords' forward Michael George and the Melfort duo of Jeff Hajner and Nick Vandenbeld for the award.
