They played their hearts out last Friday and the Bombers were up for the challenge the next night as they visited the Humboldt Broncos. Though they were down 2-1 after the first period and ultimately lost 3-2, the Bombers played another good game, according to head coach and GM Mike Reagan. "We were pretty happy with the effort in Battleford and the game could have gone either way, but then we had the chance to play the defending champions," said Reagan, noting this was a motivator for the team. The home side scored the first goal as they were able to get past Matt Weninger early in the period. A minute later, Andrew Johnston answered back to tie the game 1-1. By the end of the first period the score was 2-1 for the Broncos, but Reagan was not disappointed when the team left the ice. "We took the game over in the second period," he said. "I felt we were the better team for three quarters of the game." Flin Flon's power play record improved from the night before as they were 1-8 against the Broncos Ð though it is still not where Reagan thought they should be. "If we (had have) scored a couple of power play goals, we could have won the game," he says. "But no question, we were the better team that night." In preparation for last night, when the Broncos were in Flin Flon, the Bombers practiced their power play. Though happy with Saturday's effort, Reagan was not happy with the loss as the Bombers outshot the home team 38-27. "We made some bad mistakes (like) taking penalties late in the game and not picking up on our man," he said. With Saturday's loss out of the way, Reagan says the team was ready for last night's game. "I think we're excited to play and have another opportunity against Humboldt," he said. In the interview Monday afternoon, Reagan said he was hoping the game was going to have the same intensity as Friday against the Battleford North Stars. "We're assuming it's going to be like that," he said, noting that two good teams were going to be playing. Though Reagan notes the Broncos are a fast team, the coach says the Bombers are "hungry" and ready to "prove we are as good or better than Humboldt." Taking a look at October as of Tuesday morning, the Bombers sat with a 3-2-2 record. "I'm happy with the way we're playing," he says. "I really think we should have had a win on the last trip, but the main thing is that we're happy with the way we're playing." Reagan says the Bombers were going to get their power play back on track. The Game The Bombers' first goal of the night came from Johnston, as the Maroon and White were down 1-0. With help from Alex Lamontagne, he tied things up before the four-minute mark. A second goal came from the Broncos before the end of the first period. Starting off the second period 2-1, Devin Mitzner was able to rob the Broncos and earn the Bombers their second goal of the game, with help from Michael Young and Mathieu Lecours on a power play. The third period was the deciding factor as the Broncos were able to get past Matt Weninger for the win with a late power play goal.
