February seems to be the Flin Flon BombersÕ month as they were on the road Tuesday night to challenge the Yorkton Terriers and walked away with a win. The last time the two teams met, the scored favoured the Terriers, but the Bombers were focused and knew what they had to do for another win. The Maroon and White swamped the home team 4-1 and outshot the team 33-29. The ÒhealthyÓ battle, as assistant coach Clayton Quinn referred to it earlier this week, between Carsen Chubak and Calvin Bartel continued as Chubak was in net, hoping to continue his hot streak. And he did just that. Head coach and GM Mike Reagan said in a press release earlier this week as well, that itÕs nice to be able to rely on both goalies. ÒWeÕve been looking for someone to step up pretty much all year.Ê Right now it looks like Carsen is in a bit of a groove and we are definitely going to stick with him as long as he plays hot and gives us an opportunity to win.Ê ÒThey are both good quality kids and both understand that only one can play and that will be my decision.Ê I tell them not to worry about the decisions I have to make, but rather worry about what you have to do as a goaltender that forces me to make those tough decisions.Ó Reagan also added in the press release that if either Chubak or Bartel wins the night before they are in for the next game. ÒI guess when you know you are going to be in night in and night out then you are more comfortable.Ê Maybe that was the problem.Ê They didnÕt know who was going in some nights.Ê But, right now, I have told them if you win you are in.Ê I just hope they both get hot.Ê ThatÕs what IÕm praying for,Óhe says. And Tuesday night was a good stepping stone for Chubak as he stopped 28 of his oncoming shots. The Terriers had both of their goalies in the net. They started off with Joel Danyluk in the first period before Lynden Sammartino was put in for the remainder of the game. Pierre-Luc Boucher was on his game as well as he scored the first goal of the game after being fed by Cameron MacKinnon and Myles Masse in the middle of the period. Boucher, along with MacKinnon, also earned himself an assist as Dennis Kubat bumped the score up 2-0 for the Bombers on a power play. And the visiting team wasnÕt done yet as Dustyn Clegg popped one past Danyluk, with the help of teammates David Linsley and Cole Wilson, nearly 13 minutes into the game, for a 3-0 lead over the Terriers on another power play. And with power plays a popular part of the game, the Terriers broke ChubakÕs shutout and scored their one and only goal of the game with less than two minutes left in the fist period. A number of penalties were awarded in the first period as well as Yorkton saw one their own sit out two minutes for tripping early on in the game. But it was Bombers Barrett Penner Jock Sutter who fought things out between the Bombers first and second goal. Teammate Harley Garrioch was given two minutes for roughing after the whistle while Terrier Ken Petkau was given five minutes for boarding and a 10 minute game misconduct. And it was Yorkton again, less than a minute later with another boarding call before receiving another roughing call. Masse saw the inside of the box for two minutes for hooking while Bomber Matt Dyck was given two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct. Chubak had only eight shots come his way in the first while the Bombers doubled up once again and had 16 shots on Danyluk. The second period came and went as neither teams were able to score and there were only two penalties given out as Bomber Darcy Holfeld was given two minutes for interference and Terrier Michael Trebish was given his two minutes for holding. But another 11 shots were made on net for the Bombers are Chubak stopped all 13 of his shots. With the score 3-1 for the Bombers going into the third period, the team earned themselves another goal as Boucher found the back of the net for a second time that night. After being fed by Wilson and Dyck, Boucher made the score 4-1 late into the third period. The Bombers walked away with another win and another two points in their pockets, which left them only three points behind the third place La Ronge Ice Wolves. Flin Flon was in Melville Wednesday night for another match-up against the Millionaires.
