With a four-game winning streak on the line, the Flin Flon Bombers did not disappoint as they hit the road last Wednesday night to take on the Melfort Mustangs. After a scoreless first period by the Bombers, the Maroon and White stepped it up a notch and took over the second and third periods, coming out on top 6-3, for their fifth win in a row. The Mustangs started the scoring in the first period after 9:18 of play. Matt Hill put the puck past Flin Flon goalie Carsen Chubak, assisted by Mike Kirby and Taylor Watt. As far as scoring goes, the first period was over, but both the Bombers and the Mustangs managed some time in the box. The Mustangs had four penalties in the period, while the Bombers served only had two. Mustang penalties went to Clint Olsen for hooking while Bo Lenard got two minutes for instigating, five minutes for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct. Bomber J.M. Allard served his two minutes for boarding while David Linsley sat out two minutes for slashing. With the second period underway, the Bombers took a few minutes but managed their first goal of the night at the 7:08 mark. Pierre-Luc Boucher lit the lamp on a feed from Jean Sebastian Bergeron and Reid Macleod. Not long after, Boucher struck again, this time assisted by captain Dennis Kubat and J.M. Allard. Time of the goal was 9:44. Not to be outdone, the Mustangs scored their second goal of the night after 13:26 of play in the second period. Taylor Watt, assisted by Jordan Morgan and Mike Kirby, got the marker. Both the Bombers and the Mustangs had 11 shots after the second period, and both were given two penalties. Serving for the Bombers were David Linsley for slashing and J.M. Allard for tripping. On the other bench, John Payne sat in the box for slashing while Kyle Fraser served his time for roughing after the whistle. The Bombers got the scoring started off again in the third period. After just 5:46 of play, Reid Macleod got the puck past Melfort goalie David Ritz, bringing the score to 3-2 for the visitors. The Bombers' third goal of the night was assisted by Michael Young and Myles Masse. The Maroon and White managed another goal in the third period before the Mustangs scored their final marker of the night. Bomber Dustyn Clegg bagged the fourth goal, assisted by Pierre-Luc Boucher and Myles Masse at the 8:23 mark. The Mustangs answered back with another goal by Taylor Watt, assisted by Clint Olsen at 10:40, narrowing the lead to 4-3 for the Bombers. After another two minutes of play, the Bombers put the puck past the Mustangs once more, bringing the score to 5-3. It was the work of Tommy Castonguay, assisted by Kubat and Macleod. The final goal of the night came from Kubat, with helpers going to Macleod and Harley Garrioch at a time of 17:25. After this win the Bombers sat in second place in the Itech Conference with a record of 6-3-0-1, as of October 10.
