An 8-1 blowout over the Hawks in Nipawin was a big confidence booster for the Flin Flon Bombers last Friday. But that wasnÕt enough to generate a win in Humboldt the following night as the Broncos served the Bombers a plate of revenge in the form of a 9-2 victory. The last game the two played together was said to be one of the BombersÕ best of the season Ð and the Broncos werenÕt going to let history repeat itself. Flin Flon came out strong in the first period and scored the first goal, but couldnÕt keep it together for the second and and third periods. As the Bombers walked to the dressing room after the first period, they were down 4-1 and really feeling it, according to head coach Mike Reagan. ÒIt was most disappointing after the first period,Ó says Reagan. ÒThe guys quit, packed it in and never came back. ÒThere was lots of time left and the guys didnÕt try...to get into the game.Ó With that being said, the Broncos easily got past the Bombers. According to Reagan, the Bombers werenÕt challenged in the previous nightÕs game and felt ÒcomplacencyÓ from the night before. ÒWe knew they (the Broncos) were going to be coming and we had a good start,Ó he says. ÒWe got the first goal and we had a good first period.Ó But the Maroon and White needed to stay together for more than just the first period if they wanted to win the hockey game. Unfortunately for them, they dropped the ball for the rest of the game. ÒIt was 4-1 in the first. We didnÕt play bad, we just had some bad breaks,Ó says the coach. The boys were going to have to get back on their feet for last nightÕs game as they hosted the Broncos in the Whitney Forum. Results were unavailable at press time. ÒWe have to respond after being embarrassed,Ó says Reagan. ÒItÕs important we come out with a better effort. ÒWe have to take that (losing 9-2) as an insult and take it personally.Ó With the game being taken to the heart, the Bombers were looking for their revenge. ÒWeÕve won the last couple of games at home here,Ó Reagan says. ÒObviously all the home games are important and (we) should (be) playing better at home (than on the road).Ó The following is a summary from SaturdayÕs game between the Bombers and the Broncos in the Elgar Peterson Arena: The Bombers scored the first goal of the game. David Dykstra accepted a pass from Doug McLeod to find the back of the net against Andrew Bodnarchuk around the three-minute mark. But once the Bombers got their goal, the Broncos answered back and kept them coming. They earned themselves four goals Ð leaving the Bombers trailing 4-1 at the end of the period. Both teams were given a few penalties, with the Bombers serving three minors and Humboldt two. After four goals in the first period, Matt Weninger was replaced by Ryan Kerpan Ð who was beat five times in the second and third periods. The Bombers earned their second goal of the game in the third period as Devin Mitzner got the puck from Alex Lamontagne and Cole Gibson on a power play. All told, the Bombers fired off 27 shots while the Broncos bumped it up and offered 37. The Bombers and Broncos faced off last night in the Whitney Forum. This weekend the rink will be busy as the Maroon and White prepare for another double-header Ð this time with the Estevan Bruins.
