Flin Flon Bombers forward Dennis Kubat stepped up to the plate-big time. Not only did he score two goals within two minutes, but he scored the winning goal 8:25 into overtime. Bombers fans lost it as their team defeated the Melfort Mustangs 4-3 at the Whitney Forum, Sunday. "It's always your dream to score the O/T winner," said Kubat, following his hat-trick performance. "I'm just in awe right now." The Mustangs couldn't contain the line of Kubat, Brett Needham, and Braden Olszewski, who exploded for nine points. "Our line's doing real good," Kubat said, wearing a white hard hat for the best worker on the team. "Ollie (Olszewski) just drives the net, Needham's making hits, giving me and Ollie lots of room to work. So it's just the line contributing big time." The Bombers found themselves trailing 2-0 in the first 13 minutes of the game and 3-0 after one. They were also outshot 13-5. "I thought we were too full of piss and vinegar in the first period," Stokes said. "We wanted to establish some physical prowess early. I thought we let our emotions control us." Defenceman Bradey Fidierchuk felt the turning point came when Andrew Leslie fought Tyler Shewchuk. The fight, which happened 40 seconds into the second, sparked the Bombers who scored their first goal just over a minute later as Needham fed Kubat the puck. "We made some nice plays," Fidierchuk said. "Our third line of Needham, Kubat and Olszewski, they had a helluva game today." Watching Olszewski burn down the wing was like watching Canadiens great, Guy LaFleur, as he blew by the Mustangs along the board. As the Bombers began their comeback, their fans were right behind cheering, 'Go Bombers Go'. Mustangs coach Darryl Mann wasn't pleased as his team surrendered a three-goal lead. Following the 3-2 goal, he ripped into his team and pounded the glass. See 'Even' P.# Con't from P.# The Mustangs are lucky to be tied in the series as the Bombers couldn't solve their goalie, Dustin MacDonald. In Melfort on Friday, MacDonald, stopped 37 shots for the shut out. Olszewski had a goal disallowed when the referee felt he kicked it in on his backhand. His line had a solid game as Kubat had enough chances to earn the hat-trick. Unfortunately for the Bombers, they got into penalty trouble and the Mustangs capitalized going 2-for-6. They would add another for a 3-0 win. With the Survivor Series all even as of Monday, the Bombers headed back to Melfort Tuesday to try and take a 2-1 series lead. The next game at the Whitney Forum is tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.2/22/2006
