The Flin Flon Bombers ran out of gas on Sunday afternoon, blowing a two-goal lead and dropping a 5-3 decision to the Kindersley Klippers. The Bombers led 3-1 at the midpoint of the game, but four unanswered goals from the Klippers put an end to the Bombers' bid for their first road win of the season. Two Bomber defencemen scored their first goals of the season in the losing cause. Bradey Fidierchuk scored the only goal of the first period at 11:50, assisted by Clayton Geiger and Stewart Sjoberg. Craig Cromarty scored a power-play goal at 4:09 of the second period to tie the game, before Andrew Skrabek scored short handed and unassisted at 8:32. Bob Graham netted his first of the season from Joey Moggach and David Holinaty at 10:02 to make it 3-1 for the Bombers, but it was all downhill from there. Kevin Buyan made it a 3-2 game before the end of the second, scoring at 13:17. The Klippers added three more in the third period. Jesse Fischer tied the game at 4:12, and Brady Larock scored the game-winning goal on a power play at 13:51. Josh Zimmer's empty net goal at 19:26 was his first goal of the season. Final shots on net were 39-31 in favour of the Klippers, who scored two power-play goals on nine chances. The Bombers were held scoreless on five chances, but did score a short handed goal. Dale Pettit made 35 saves in the losing cause, while Jonathan Meyer made 28 saves to get the win. Although they only got one point on the road this past weekend, some good things happened. Francois Laverdiere and Dale Pettit turned aside a lot of shots, and in four games last week the Bombers held their goals against to three goals per game. Laverdiere was named the SJHL Goaltender of the Week for his performance in the first three games. Blake Rolston had three goals last week, Andrew Skrabek had a pair, and the defence have been starting to help out offensively. Not so good last week were special teams situations. On the power play, the Bombers scored two goals on 30 chances, good for 7% efficiency. On the season, the Bombers are at 9.7%. The league average is 17.1% Killing penalties, the Bombers allowed six goals on 31 chances, good for 81%, which is an improvement on their regular season average of 76.2%. Unfortunately, the league average is still 83%. Flin Flon will have the rest of the week to prepare for games against southern opponents this weekend. Weyburn will be in town on Friday, while Humboldt visits the Whitney Forum on Saturday.
